Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) has good comprehensive mechanical properties. It is in the forefront of general plastics. Its tensile strength, bending strength and compression strength are higher than those of polyolefin, polystyrene and polyvinyl chloride. Its impact toughness is poor, but it is also slightly better than polystyrene. The mechanical properties of poured bulk polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) sheets, such as aeronautical PMMA sheets, are higher in tension, bending and compression, which can reach the level of engineering plastics such as polyamide and polycarbonate. Generally speaking, the tensile strength and flexural strength of polymethyl methacrylate can reach 50-77 MPa and 90-130 MPa, and the upper limit of these performance data has reached or even exceeded some engineering plastics. Its elongation at break is only
2% - 3%, so the mechanical properties are basically hard and brittle plastics with notch sensitivity and easy to crack under stress, but the fracture surface is not as sharp and uneven as polystyrene and ordinary inorganic glass. The temperature of 40 C is a second-order transition temperature, which is equivalent to the temperature at which side methyl starts to move. The toughness and ductility of the material are improved when the temperature exceeds 40 C. Polymethyl methacrylate has low surface hardness and easy to scratch.

Difference between cast and extrusion of Clear Cast Acrylic Sheet:
A: Casting board: high molecular weight, excellent stiffness, strength and chemical resistance. Therefore, it is more suitable for processing large-sized plaques, which takes a little longer than the softening process. This kind of sheet is characterized by small batch processing, incomparable flexibility in color system and surface texture effect, and complete product specifications, practical for various special purposes.
B: Extrusion board: Compared with cast board, Extrusion board has lower molecular weight, weaker mechanical properties and higher flexibility. However, this feature is conducive to bending and hot forming, and the softening time is short. It is advantageous to various kinds of rapid vacuum suction moulding when dealing with large-sized sheets. At the same time, the thickness tolerance of extrusion plate is smaller than that of casting plate. Because the extrusion plate is a mass automatic production, the color and specifications are inconvenient to adjust, so the product specifications diversity is limited.
